Don't worry be Happy

Since I last wrote, the world has turned upside down again. Why I will never understand, so its time again to be happy with what one has, hug and love your family, friends, and neighbours.

Look at a picture, let your imagination run wild, and smile!

Smell the roses!

Watch for the green light in a sunset!

Admire a friends photograph, send a note saying how much you like it.

Lead from the heart, you may be surprised where it takes you.

Did you learn something new this week, I DID!

Lucky me I got to see this beautiful Mercedes up close, and personal. But for some reason the owner, a very nice person would not let me take it out for a drive! The talent to create such an art piece is overwhelming to me. I took several pictures of the headlights, the details are beyond belief. Last year the headlight on my car had to be replaced, it took 2 race car drivers 45 minutes to try to figure it out. I can only imagine these headlights being changed!

Eddrick, Dee, Walt, and Woolfe (1926 Bentley) were at the same place as me, what a great treat.

Quinn and I went to Storybook reading at Chapters in Langley, BC. Quinn got a scary tattoo, she was so pleased with it. Then to Costco for our hot dog lunch!

The things I learned so far this week, people can build cars that are more art than machine, life goes on when someone passes, seeing life through a 2 year olds eyes is exhilerating. Which makes you appreciate everything all the more.

Don't get so busy with your life, that you miss the smell of the roses, a child's laughter, friends or  family who need a hug, someone who needs you to just sit with them, even if nothing is said.

Canadian Thanksgiving, Royal Victoria Marathon, and being Thankful

In our family, since we are from Victoria BC, when it's Thanksgiving, it's also the Royal Victoria Marathon weekend. Most of the family come home from far and wide, we participate in the race from the kids 1.5K, 8K, Half Marathon, and Full Marathon. One year the Times Colonist Newspaper sent a photographer to take a picture of us all. We ended up on the front page the the newspaper, what a way to start race day! Yes there are several very gifted runners, and walkers in our family.

This year numerous family members will be taking part, and those that don't will be watching, cheering, or minding the very little ones, who are not quite ready for the race. I think next year, even Quinn who is 22 months old, will be ready for the kids race.

After the race, we get to rest, shower, nap, then it is time for us all to meet at the James Bay Inn for dinner.  The Inn kindly gives us a banquet room, where everyone can mingle, chat, say what we are thankful for, walk about, laugh etc. without bothering anyone else. We did this a few years ago, and the family is still talking about it.

On Sunday after a full day, and a full belly of turkey we say goodbye to each other as tomorrow most of us will be travelling to our homes.

The hardest person for me to say good bye to is Mum.

Thanksgiving with family, and friends, is what I am thankful for.

My sister and brother in law, are very special people!

As I write this I am already crying, my sister and brother in law are wonderful people, that it is a joy to know. Yes, I am the emotional one is the family.

Neither person wants to be known with real pictures put out there. The compassion they have is overwhelming. No matter what silly, what was she thinking thing I have done now, they are there for me no questions asked.

W. would like a fine glass of wine, a good book, crossword puzzle, friends, family, travelling, and helping where ever she can, but there is so much more to her.

S. would like a fine beer! Friends, family, motorcycles, running, biking, helping, travelling, and again so much more, then realizes by default I am his favourite sister in law.

I have such GRATITUDE for my sister and brother in law.

DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL SIBLING, MAKE SURE YOU TELL THEM HOW MUCH YOU LOVE THEM WHENEVER YOU CAN.

Making memories is more important than a clean house!

LIFE IS SHORT, SCREW HAVING A CLEAN HOUSE, GET OUT AND MAKE MEMORIES, TELL PEOPLE YOU LOVE THEM, AND THAT THEY ADD HAPPINESS TO YOUR LIFE.

September/October is a racing month, here there, and everywhere, should I stay home, and have a clean house, or pack the car up, an make memories.

Memories wins every time, as people come to see you, not a spotless home that has been cleaned within a inch of it's life.

Below is Pat she is making lunch for her race team, and anyone else who comes by who needs a meal.

Like a lot of race people, at lunch time, you could drop in at many paddocks to have lunch without an invitation, just come for the food, fun, laughter, bench racing, and friendship.

Below is Jake, the crew chief on the #95 Yellowjacket Corvette, why this picture, because Jake  rarely sits and not work on the car.  He had a football accident yesterday, and we are all grateful he is going to be alright.  A talented young man.

I am off making memories with Quinn for the next three days,  first off lucky me, memories galore to say the least.  Storybook hour, then the craft we made, the red is from a red stamp pad, we made mummy a popcorn holder (it's her birthday).  I could care less about the red stamp pad on my hands, the laughter, and joy of watching her and the other children was awesome. We are washable and portable! We read about a baby golden dragon today!

This month has been sad, joy, laughter, crying, but I did get through it, my friends, and family saw to that.  We lost Elise to Neuroblastoma Cancer at age 17, the memorial service was wonderful.  We raced, and then at one of the races we lost a good volunteer Dave suddenly.  My dear friend Ken is having heart surgery today, praying like mad for him.

Sent the bad stuff to the dumpster, so the good could shine through!

When there is going to be a difficult time, I wear my racing t shirts, so I can feel the warmth of a great group of people with me.

I paid off the insurance bill, not because I was guilty, but because I did not have the funds to fight it further, and my insurance company also concurred.  This was my first insurance claim, and hopefully my last.

CHARLIE hit 100,000. KM in milage, oh what fun we have had together!

My elder brother says that my Mum will be coming over from Victoria in the next few weeks to visit us all, what joy that will bring to us!

The Canadian, and USA people are having elections this year, this cartoon arrived this morning, and fits the situation.

Lucky me I got to babysit Quinn 3 times last week, and on Tuesday we are going to story book reading at Chapters!

If we walk to the end of any path, there will be a fork, which will you take, the one that leads to a new adventure, or the one to redo past mistakes!

Elise and the trick she played on me!

I dashed off to Victoria BC on Monday, August 31, 2015, Elise would be leaving us and I had to say goodbye in person. Since November, 2009, she her brother Jamie, parents Peter and Laurie have had a special place in my heart, as that is when Elise was told she had neuroblastoma cancer. NOT FAIR, but as Laurie told me who said life was going to be fair. I visited and tried to help the family many times while Elise was being treated at Children's Hospital here in Vancouver. That included getting KFC as a after chemo treat! Taking everyone to Metrotown Mall at Christmas time, something that I would not normally do unless with an armed guard! Build a Bear, Starbucks, hugs laughter, and so many memories.

My mum say's I am the "auntie that comes a running" when asked.

Below is the green lizard earrings that Elise made for me to match Lizard (Walt Dee and Eddrick's Formula V racecar).

Breakfast at Oakridge Centre, oh that smile!

Roses provided by a dear friend Steve Thornton to complete Elise's picture.

Friday, September 4, 2015, I left for Portland International Raceway at 3:30AM, in our family while someone is driving, flying, etc. we don't contact them until they are on the ground with any bad news.

No one wants me on the I5 driving in rush hour crying my eyes out! I let the family know I'd arrived at 10:30AM, safe and sound, fine to contact me with any news, and they kept me updated throughout the day about Elise.

Elise's trick for me!

In the afternoon, the Mad Mollusk Racing Team decided we should check into the hotel, drop off luggage, and go for dinner to Elmer's.

When I reached the hotel about 10 minutes later, I got into the elevator, it stopped, fell, then jumped, then my heart thought maybe it will fall. Finally find the phone in the elevator, call for help, they say they will call the police (what is the police going to do, shoot me out!).  So I called Dee at the track she is extremely level headed and would know what to do, she called the fire department.
Here I am in a sealed stuck elevator no internet nothing, and after a minute my iPhone goes nuts with texts, and ringing. The news I have been dreading from Canada, Elise has passed, why aren't you answering our texts etc. I become a blubbering idiot alone in the dark elevator, having to also go to the bathroom. The fireman arrive, I am not exactly coherent, wrong floor, the fireman who arrive think I am totally nuts, I show them my cell phone, and what has happened since I was stuck in the elevator, they are about to lose it too. Out of the elevator we are on the wrong floor, so the fireman carry my luggage, and the other one helps me on the stairs which are I need help on, at least I had my cane. Arrive at my room, the fireman put my luggage in, make sure I am breathing normal, and leave. Bathroom 1st then the family. A knock at the door, the hotel manager has walked up 3 flights of stairs to talk with me. Still crying, I explain to her I could have cared less about being stuck in an elevator (been there done that with my Mum). It's the news about Elise. She turns white as a sheet. She walks me down 3 flights of stairs, explains my hotel will be free for the weekend, and she walks me to Elmer's where the team is arriving to get me, she goes to Elmer's and says anything for our table will be paid for by the hotel.

At dinner, which I don't really remember we talked about Elise, and the trick she played on me to find out about her passing in a dark, stuck elevator in another country, not waiting 10 minutes for me to be sitting down in my hotel room.

My race family took care of me all weekend, letting me vent, cry, laugh,  I knew I would have another special angel watching over me.

When I talked with Elise on the 31st, I said I'd be going to Portland to say goodbye to two dear friends who are fighting cancer. I was able to tell both of them how special they were to me in my life.

How do you balance requests for charity?

We all get requests to raise funds for a charity. This year seems that every time I open the emails, snail mail, or answer the telephone. People are asking.

It is a balancing act, and I don't juggle to well.

Then I realized it doesn't have to be money. Ask if they are also collecting items for a silent auction? Or do they need you to volunteer a couple of hours?

Choices are good, and if you don't ask you won't know.

This is putting my volunteer and charity donations back on track.

Below is the balancing act I am trying for!

These two pictures are from www.markpowell.com
Mark is a very talented gentleman who freely shares his sculpture artistry on his website, and is also a joy to watch when he is vintage car racing.
